2 Things (Travis)

First, this blog is hilarious, and informative. Short story even shorter, it’s answers to questions you’ve always wondered. What makes hair curly? Now I know.

Second, tomorrow’s the 4th annual Earth Hour. At 8:30 PM (local time), the WWF (wildlife, not wrestling) is asking everyone to go dark for an hour. Turn off your lights, computers, TVs, electric fireplaces, and grape lights. It’s just an hour. In 2007, 2.2 million Aussies started the movement – in 2010, more than a billion people in 126 countries participated. That’s neat.

  1. I will be checking both of those out later gater. Thanks for posting!

  2. Earth hour, NOOO! Everybody turning off power at the same time is a bad idea. Especially in an area where you’re powered by a 24/7 nuclear plant giving base-load that needs constant cooling. The energy has to go somewhere.

Also, the opposite is bad, when everybody decides to turn stuff on at the same time (which also happens at the end of earth hour). This happens in the UK when everybody uses electric tea kettles during commercial breaks of soccer matches and soap operas:

    • Thanks for the links! But I think he point of Earth Hour isn’t to reduce carbon emissions by going dark for an hour. People would be naive to think that a dark hour would solve any problems directly. The point is to spread awareness of the impact of overconsumption of energy. At least the concept is in a billion peoples’ minds.
